2017 Henrietta Cleveland Inspiring Women Award

Presented by

Joan Tepe Wurtenberger

Joan Tepe Wurtenberger is a registered architect, and as a senior partner of Champlin Architecture, Inc. she has helped to lead the firm into design services focusing on corporate, health care, higher education, and civic projects. She and her partners bought the firm in 1990 and each year have successfully increased the size of projects and the number of professionals in Cincinnati, Lexington, Indianapolis, and Dayton offices. Throughout her career, Joan has placed an emphasis on building client relationships through strong service and lasting design. As a LEED-accredited professional, she encourages each client to embrace sustainable principles while developing their unique aesthetic.

Joan demonstrated her leadership skills as the first female president of the American Institute of Architects in her regional chapter. She assisted with the development of St. Mary’s Park near the Cathedral Basilica in Covington and is on the Building and Plant Committee for Notre Dame Academy. She served multiple terms on the Board of Trustees for St. Elizabeth Healthcare, chaired the Strategic Planning Committee, is active in the SEH Foundation, and sits on the Executive Committee. She was selected by LEAD Magazine as a Woman of Influence and has been involved with the American Heart Association Heart Chase. On a lighter note, Joan enjoys many charity golf outings throughout the season. While these sponsorships have helped to raise money for organizations in our community, she says it has not raised her level of play.

I am grateful to be selected for this award. I am blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who have amazing philanthropic spirit. To my husband, David, and my daughters Emily and Kate, I love you and thank you for being constant support. Thanks to my parents, who created 12 Tepe siblings who inspire me as caring and successful adults. Thanks to all at Champlin Architecture, who for 35 years have made every day challenging
and rewarding. And, sincere gratitude to the nurses, physicians, and administration at
St. Elizabeth Healthcare who work so hard to keep our community healthy.
